Sick and tired of waiting for someone to build you a joystick
box? Don't want that cheap feeling MadCatz or Hori box? Want to insert your own
graphics and really make a joystick that exemplifies who you really are?
CustomCadetm has produced one of the most
comfortable and awesome joystick cases we have had the pleasure of working with.
Enough space inside to fit an XBOX 360 board and a
Cthulhu board, this joystick case is made of easily stainable poplar
hardwood. The top section is made from MDF and has drill holes specifically
catered for 8-way joysticks. The top has a plexiglass cover which protects your
inserted graphic (between the MDF and plexi). The bottom cover has two options:
Plywood or Plexi (choose from the drop-down menu below).
Although specifically made for threaded buttons, we have had
quite a bit of success with snap-ins as well, as long as the mdf is adjusted a
tad so that the snap-ins snap to the plexiglass top. Three holes exist on the
front for your various start/select/home buttons. A mouse-hole is also included
for running cables out of the front of the box. 4 rubber feet (screwed in) keep
the bottom in-tact and allow for a nice non-slip base.
CUSTOMCADE COMES WITH A PLEXIGLASS
BOTTOM, MDF TOP WITH A PLEXIGLASS COVER (ART IS INSERTED IN BETWEEN THE MDF AND
THE PLEXIGLASS)
COMPATIBLE JOYSTICKS:
This case was designed specifically for the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT,
which is the JLF-TP with a mounting plate. The holes are pre-drilled for this
mounting plate specifically. It is a drop-in compatible box, meaning you just
take your mounted jlf and "drop" it into the box from the top, screw it in, and
you are ready to go. The top panel is recessed enough for a flush mount with the
mdf.
We wouldn't necessarily suggest putting a HAPP joystick into
this case as it is not fitted for it, but with some modification you may be able
to get it to work. Only word of caution is that the height of the box is not
suitable for the HAPP joysticks, as they are fairly deep below the panel level.
COMPATIBLE PUSHBUTTONS:
We've tested Seimitsu PS-14-KN (screw ins), Seimitsu PS-14-K
(snap-ins), Sanwa OBSN (screw ins), Sanwa OBSF (snap-ins), Happ Competition
pushbuttons (screw-ins) and all work perfectly fine. The threaded buttons are
strongly suggested since they keep the plexiglass affixed to the top mdf panel.
If you use snap-in buttons, we'd suggest maybe affixing the plexiglass top to
the case by using silicone sealant but this is somewhat of a permanent affixing.
You can remove silicone sealant but it does get a little messy, but is doable.
DETAILS:
The top panel is designed for 30mm buttons from the compatible
list of buttons listed above. The front consists of 3 holes, 2 24mm and 1 30mm.
These 3 holes in the front should use threaded/screw-in buttons as they are
fairly deep. Snap-ins will work but they should be affixed by some type of glue,
sealant in order to hold them in place.
PLEXIGLASS: As you can see on the pictures below, the
plexiglass is not directly affixed to the top. We found this to be really a
smooth look and allowed graphic inserts to look much cleaner. If you use snap-in
buttons (ones that snap-into the plexiglass), we would suggest using a silicone
sealant (the stuff they use to seal fish tanks) to seal the plexiglass to the
mdf/board. Please do this after you've put all the buttons in and have inserted
your graphic insert.
WOOD: The wood is a poplar hardwood which is easily
stainable/paintable. If you are staining, please condition the wood so it
is sealed prior to staining as the wood soaks stains very easily. We suggest 3
coats of stain to get a great, deep stain. Of course, we also suggest applying a
coat of Polyurethane at the end to seal the stain otherwise your wood will
scratch easily. Some people tend to apply 1-2 coats of stain and the final coat
they will mix 50/50 poly with the stain. The TOP part of the joystick box is
made from an MDF material which is fairly easily drillable and maneuverable. We
strongly suggest not drilling too much into this MDF as it can make it weaker.
What's in the box?
* CustomCade joystick box (top is your choice, from the
drop-down menus below)
* 4 rubber feet and 4 screws to affix the rubber feet
* A high-gloss MODCHIPMAN business card which will easily get you women (or men)
